My Odyssey Autobiography Version 2 Today is the day, finally time for us to get up and go. Time to live in adventure and see amazing features in the land around us. I have been waiting for this day ever since my parents first talked about it, I could not wait. It was finally time to go on our odyssey, even though we will be crowded and cramped up the whole ride it will be worth the wait. Boys into the car my dad yelled. I was still gathering all of my daily items like my toothbrush and my pills when he had said this. I shoved all of these items into my bag and ran as fast as my legs could carry me to the car. I jumped out of my seat to a loud scream in the car, from my youngest brother, Brendan. He wanted something to eat so my dad chucked a granola bar at him, if I was awake I could have just handed it to him instead of him getting food chucked at him. I looked out my window and realized that we were about 15 miles from Green Bay. To dodge Green Bay and its lunch time traffic, we merged on a highway that went around Green Bay. A little after we got onto that highway, we approached up to a Ford Explorer, and like anyone that you approach on a multi lane highway you merge to pass. So, she began to pass this vehicle and this other person approached behind us and began to honk. They were too lazy to turn off their speed control. So, my mom had to accelerate and merge right in front of the Explorer. Turns out it was a police car with hidden police lights, and it flashed at us. She thought that this car was trying to pull her over so she pulled over. I guess that it was just warning us to not pull right in front of them again, because it didnt even slow down after that. I began to feel drowsy again and fell asleep. I woke up a couple of hours later to a honking semi-truck. I asked Where are we now? We are in Chicago and stuck work traffic. It probably took at least 2 hours and 30 minutes to speed back up to the speed limit; and during this time, we only went about 3 miles. Women in the Odyssey by Homer Essay examples - 684 Words

The Odyssey by Homer encompasses a rather modern idea of women and their role for its time. Homer portrays women as creatures who are strong but are ultimately defeated. It is true that in most stories they are portrayed as being weaker, but the women in this poem are oddly strong or have a very strong presence. The three main examples are Calypso, Athena, and the Lotus Flower. Each of these examples has a predominant presence in The Odyssey making them sturdy objects. At first the goddess Calypso presents a strong force in the very beginning of the poem. Calypso, Atlass daughter, keeps the sad Odysseus (Book I) in her grotto (Book V). The godlike Odysseus is the source of the masculine power in this book and for him to be held†¦show more content†¦If she did, she would have been the one to deliver the orders to Calypso or the one to order Hermes to deliver the order. Finally, the Lotus flower described in Book IX once more symbolizes a powerful womans role that is squashed by a larger masculine power. It is told in Book IX that to feed upon that food and disremember their [the crewmembers] homeward path. The flower, a typical feminine symbol, being once consumed causes disillusion among the consumer. For the flower to be able to alter the thoughts of men is to be able to alter the course of their actions. A simple little flower crushes the thought that men are invincible and immune to the effects of something that isnt cold steel. Once again, the power the flower exudes is suppressed by the masculine power held within The Odyssey. Odysseus had to force them [the affected crew] back, in tears, to their own ships; there they were dragged beneath the rowing benches and bound fast (Book IX) all in order to pull them away from the euphoria produce by the lotus flower. It took the source of masculinity and, what we can only assume, chains to pull these men from its draw. In closing, The Odyssey by Homer is a poem that has a relatively modern view of women. They are portrayed as strong presences that pose threats to the overbearing masculine power within the poem. However, the masculine power does prevail over the womens strength. People do not know just how high their intake of carbohydrates, sugar, trans and saturated fats, sodium, and calories is when consuming these foods. Carbohydrates are in almost all kinds of fast foods, and not the complex, whole-wheat, fiber- rich carbohydrates that one should desire in their body. The types of fat found in these foods increase the bad cholesterol, lower the good cholesterol, clog arteries, and increase the risk of heart disease and strokes in humans. Another very good feature that the organization already possesses is their modern innovative technology that is very important to carry on with the organization. However to make the business successful with the new changes, more recent technology has to be implemented and the employees have to adjust their working skills according to the new requirement. It also aimed to prepare a strong loyal customer base and also tried to implement the new working styles of every individual through then introduction of new software though technological modifications. Different types of issues were observed by me when in was hired and given the responsibility to analyze the barriers that are causing hindrances in the implementation of the changes occurring in that area. I along with my team tried to analyze the different working grounds of the teams and the workers and realized a number of issues. These issues were believed to create obstructions while the workers wanted to adjust themselves with the changes. The hindrances were that the roles of the different workers and team members of different designations were not clear about their roles in the newly implemented systems. Besides confusion with the new roles, the workers were not skilled enough to handle the new softwares that were instilled in the company to keep up with the new schemes. Therefore the workers were losing self confidence and were losing their interest in their work. After being appointed as the external change agent, our team researched and found out the faults. We applied the ADKAR model which acted as a framework for building of a clearer understanding of the effects of the organizational changes. It also helped in the developing interventions that will help to adjust to the organizational changes in a way that would help in achieving the vision of the organizations. It was observed that the five components of the ADKAR model have not only helped to understand the various effects that had resulted in the organizational changes. It was seen that after the workers understood the causes for the implementation of the changes, they expressed their interest to participate together for adjusting themselves for the environment. They underwent training under their seniors who planned their respective assignment and successfully adjusted themselves to the new environment. On measuring their progress over six months, I found that they working consistentl y and the company were seeing good profit levels as well. Medical evidence suggests that boxers risk long term brain damage due to cumulative haemorrhaging of the blood vessels surrounding the brain. A British Medical Association (BMA) spokeswoman showed her concern by asking: How many more brain-damaged boxers do there have to be before boxing is banned?. The BMA is an association that has been trying to outlaw boxing since 1982. It claimed that boxing is a morally wrong sport which has been designed to intentionally to cause damage in the boxers brains. However, its pleas have largely fallen on deaf ears and were also criticized by many. The only country, which called for boxing to be banned so far, is Iceland.Another reason to support why boxing should be outlawed is the negative influence it has over the younger generation. According to an article from American Sociological Review, in a study attempting to discover whether mass media violence triggers additional aggressive behavior, it is proven that laboratory subjects exposed to violent material on film tend to behave more aggressively than those who are not exposed to such material. As children are very impressionable, they tend to emulate whatever they see on television and watching boxing on television might encourage aggressive behavior among them. Some of these children may also regard boxers as their role models and grow up wanting to be boxers too. This is contradictory because as an article from Boxing and Society noted, none of the professional boxers the author of this article met were eager to have any of their children embark on a career in the the ring. For them boxing was the best way to exchange their body capital for a livelihood, but they wanted better futures for their children. Even though there are many people advocating that boxing should be banned, there are also many who are against the idea. One such person is Dr. Nigel Warburton of the Open University in the Journal of Medical Ethics. He stated that for the years 1986 to 1992, boxing accounted for only three deaths in Wales in England compared with the 77 deaths from motor sports, 69 from air sports, 54 from mountaineering, 40 from ball games and 28 from horse riding. He added that it is also clear that drinking and smoking pose a far greater risk to long term well-being than does a career in boxing but yet there has not been a call for the banning of these activities. Personally, I agree with what Dr. Warburton that arguments to outlaw boxing are not justified. As the Ban Boxing editorial once pointed out: The question is whether boxing is pernicious enough to join drug use, prostitution, and several other victimless pastimes deemed illegal. My answer to that question would certainly be no. I believe that you cannot totally outlaw a sport. If boxing is to be banned, people will still do it, either in some other countries, in offshore barges, or at worst, underground. If this happens, it will be a much worse situation as there will not be any proper medical help, thus putting the boxers at a higher health risk. However, this appears to be an act of exploitation on the side of the Israeli government, through the exercise of selective integration, where only cheap labor and limited production would be allowed at all costs. No equal commercial exchange was said to be allowed that, by the 1990s or after the second Gulf War, introduced a number of restrictive policies and collective punishment and restrictions, which brought further complexity to the political and econ omic arena of Palestine. General, comprehensive, and internal closure policies were applied (126), and by 2002, a control in terms of its natural resources led Israeli to build strong walls intended to further extension of control over the WBGS by means of increasing the size and number of colonial settlements and settlers, and to fragment the WBGS areas into many enclaves (127). Israeli gained its control over the Palestinian people, economy, and territory implementing procedures that control the resources and increase the price of land and water that, in the process, increased the cost of agricultural production. By 2002, Israeli built a separation wall under these two motives: first, to confiscate more land in the colonization of WBGS; and second, to displace Palestinians by denying them access to their land and resources (128). It appears that the PA had failed to properly and rightfully administer its land. Since its establishment in 1994, there had been numerous debates on the true state and role of the PA concerning its mandate, responsibilities, and plan of action. With exceedingly limited control over policies and resources, its attempt to build a developmental state during the Oslo Accords was nearly impossible because of Israelis policies of closure, settlement building, bypass construction, and control over natural resources (Alissa 132). However, this does not state PA as politically and socially futile. Its plans of action were just weak and inappropriate. Conclusion There were a number of helpful things that PA brought to its society, such as greater privileges and rights like the numerous government institutions that delivered apt services and privileges to the Palestinian citizens. Its failure in terms of its plan of action has tragically coincided with Israelis policies of colonization and land confiscation, and this brought danger, especially that Israeli controls most of Palestines resources, population, and power. Although PA had brought great privileges and assistance to the Palestinians, it needs to be strengthened and improved, chiefly because it had failed to develop a functioning economy to its state and societyone that has geographical linkage, liberty, and the ability to build, control, and administer its own currency, own policies, own resources, own rights, and own capacities.
